Radio Antennas & Network Deployment

Learn about regional frequencies, antennas, range, solar power, and outdoor deployment.

Should I choose 868MHz or 915MHz?

Applicable models: N30鈥揘39, ThinkNode M3, M7, M9

The appropriate LoRa frequency depends on your country or region and the hardware version of your device.

The United States commonly uses the 902鈥?28MHz band for Meshtastic, while European Meshtastic configurations generally use the 868MHz region.

Choose a device and antenna suitable for your local radio regulations, and configure the correct region in your firmware before transmitting.

A device advertised with a broad frequency range is not necessarily optimized or certified for every frequency within that range.

How far can my Meshnology device communicate?

Applicable models: N30, N32, N33, N35, N36, N37, N37E, N39

The actual communication range depends on terrain, antenna performance, installation height, obstacles, radio interference, and LoRa settings.

An open area with a clear line of sight generally provides better communication conditions than an indoor environment or a densely built urban area.

There is no single guaranteed communication distance for every deployment.

For the most reliable results, test your devices in the environment where you intend to use them.

Can I build a permanent outdoor mesh network with Meshnology devices?

Applicable models: N37, N37E, N39, ThinkNode M7

Yes. Compatible LoRa devices can be used to build local mesh networks for outdoor communication, GPS tracking, and monitoring.

For larger deployments, consider installing compatible relay nodes at elevated locations with suitable power supplies, antenna positioning, and weather protection.

The N37, N37E, and N39 support GPS positioning, while the ThinkNode M7 provides Ethernet and PoE connectivity for compatible gateway applications.

Network design should be based on site conditions, coverage testing, and the expected number of users and devices.

Can I use my N37, N37E, or N39 with solar power?

Applicable models: N37, N37E, N39

The N37 and N37E platforms support solar power input, and the Heltec V4-based N39 provides a solar input interface.

For outdoor installations, use compatible solar panels, suitable battery protection, and appropriate charging and power-management components.

Solar charging performance depends on panel output, available sunlight, device power consumption, and the specific hardware configuration.

Please refer to the product鈥檚 technical documentation before connecting an external power source.

Are Meshnology devices waterproof?

Applicable models: N30, N32, N33, N35, N36, N37, N37E, N39

Weather resistance varies depending on the product and enclosure design.

A protective case does not automatically make a device waterproof or suitable for prolonged exposure to rain, snow, or high humidity.

Unless the specific product documentation states a verified ingress protection rating, we recommend using an appropriate weatherproof enclosure for permanent outdoor installations.

Make sure antenna connections, charging ports, and cable entry points are properly protected.
